The airport was opened in 1957, but it was completely renovated and expanded in 2010, in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The airport has a variety of services and amenities for passengers, including restaurants, shops, lounges, and duty-free stores. It also has several on-site hotels, including the Golden Tulip Brasília Alvorada and the Base Concept Hotel. In addition, the airport provides free Wi-Fi, baggage storage, and currency exchange services.
