About Iraqi Airways

Iraqi Airways, known in Arabic as الخطوط الجوية العراقية‎ al-Xuṭūṭ al-Jawwiyyah al-ʿIrāqiyyah, is the flag carrier of Iraq and is headquartered at Baghdad International Airport in Baghdad. Founded in 1945 and commencing operations the following year, it is the second-oldest airline in the Middle East.

The airline is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization and operates domestic flights within Iraq, as well as regional services to the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

During the 1990s, this airline’s operations were limited due to various factors such as suspensions and No-Fly Zones meaning both international and domestic services were affected and mostly grounded, with limited scheduled services and some Hajj flights permitted. However, after the end of the War in Iraq, the airline announced plans to resume international flights in 2004 with a flight between Baghdad and Amman. The airline also began interline and codeshare agreements with airlines such as Teebah Airlines, Blue Wings and Tor Air.

Iraqi Airways Hub Airport

Baghdad International Airport

Baghdad International Airport is the largest international airport in Iraq, just outside of the country’s capital. The airport was opened in 1982 and was temporarily closed intermittently over the following decades until 2004 when the Iraqi government regained control of it. Plans were announced in 2010 for the expansion of the airport, which is expected to double the capacity to 15 million passengers a year.

This airport is the hub for Iraqi Airways, FlyBaghdad. and, formerly, Al-Naser Airlines. A number of other airlines also fly to this airport, including Iran Air, Mahan Air, Turkish Airlines and flynas.

Iraqi Airways Class Information

Economy Class

Iraqi Airlines only offers standard economy seating. On most aircraft, the seats are leather and comfortable, with padded headrests, and the staff are dedicated to providing the highest class of service.

The seats on Boeing aircraft offer seat-back monitors with a mini headphone jack so you can stay entertained and a USB charging port for your personal devices.

Premium Economy

Currently, Iraqi Airways do not provide a premium economy class on board their flights.

Business Class

There is a business class available on selected Iraqi Airways routes and aircraft. In the planes which have a business class, the number is limited to small numbers of around 12 seats. These seats are in a different section of the cabin, providing more privacy and solitude for your flight.

The seats in business are larger than in economy, providing more seat width and pitch so that you can stretch out and enjoy your flight.

First Class

Currently, there is no first class on Iraqi Airways flights. If you wish to have a premium experience, you can choose to upgrade from economy to business class on selected flights.

Iraqi Airways In-Flight Entertainment

There is a modern selection of in-flight entertainment onboard the Iraqi Airways planes, with personal in-seat screens and a wide choice of movies, TV shows and music.

Iraqi Airways Food

You can enjoy complimentary meals and snacks during your flight. The number of meals and what is served will be determined by the duration and route of your flight.

There are no alcoholic beverages served onboard Iraqi Airways flights, due to religious reasons. However, there will be complimentary non-alcoholic soft and hot drinks available.

Iraqi Airways WiFi

This airline does not currently offer any inflight connectivity via broadband or WiFi.

Iraqi Airways Frequent Flyer

You can earn points with the Iraqi Airways SkyMiles scheme, where you earn ‘Miles’ each time you fly. This means that the more frequent passengers can earn more points, and are rewarded for their loyalty to flying regularly with Iraqi Airways or their partners. With the earned Miles, you can then redeem them in the form of flight rewards, extra baggage or flight upgrades.

Iraqi Airways Airline Alliance

Iraqi Airways is part of the Arab Air Carriers Organization. This is an organisation which allows members to cooperate more smoothly, sharing benefits from its joint work. Other airlines that are part of this organisation include flynas, Palestinian Airlines, Sudan Airways, Air Cairo and Kuwait Airways.
